In Cremorne, the stairs are the job.

Half of Cremorne is beautiful 1930s walk-up apartments with no lift and a half-landing turn that a three-seater will not go round. The other half is houses built down the slope toward the water. Both are won or lost on the carry.

In short

Moving in Cremorne.

The main constraint
Stairs without a lift. Cremorne has one of the highest concentrations of art-deco walk-up blocks on the North Shore, most of them three or four storeys with narrow half-landing turns.
How we handle it
We ask the floor and the staircase type before quoting, and add crew rather than hours so the job still finishes in a day. Where a piece will not turn the landing, we say so before the day, not on it.
Typical job
One and two-bedroom apartments, and three to four bedroom houses on the Point. Half-day to full-day work.
Balcony and window exits
Occasionally the only way a sofa leaves a deco block. We assess whether it is possible and quote it separately; it is never attempted as an improvisation on the morning.
Parking
Military Road and the streets feeding it are congested from mid-morning. Early starts take an hour off most Cremorne jobs.
On-site quotes
Free, and worth it for anything above the second floor or on Cremorne Point.
Local knowledge

A three-seater does not always turn the landing.

Cremorne's deco blocks were built when furniture was smaller. The staircases are generous by modern standards until you reach the half-landing, where the turn is tight and the ceiling is low, and a modern deep-seat lounge simply will not go round it.

That is a five-minute conversation before you book and a ruined morning if nobody has it. We measure the turn, check the piece, and tell you the answer while you can still do something about it.

Questions

Asked about Cremorne.

Ask us something else
01 My block is four floors with no lift. How is that priced?

By the time it actually takes, which we work out from the floor, the staircase and the inventory. It is in the quoted figure before you book — a walk-up is not a surcharge we add afterwards.

02 Will my lounge fit down the stairwell?

Often the question is the half-landing rather than the stairs. Send a photograph of the turn and the dimensions of the piece and we will tell you before the day.

03 Can you get a truck down to Cremorne Point?

Usually, though not always a full-size one. The lower streets are narrow with limited turning, so for larger homes we look first and bring a truck that fits.

04 Do you cover Neutral Bay and Kurraba Point?

Yes, along with Cremorne Point and the rest of the Lower North Shore. The stair and access considerations are much the same.
