Four levels, and the truck is at the top.
Northbridge homes were built down the slope toward Sailors Bay, which means the living areas are often two or three levels below the street and everything comes up by hand. Volume is rarely the issue. Vertical distance is.
Moving in Northbridge.
- The main constraint
- Levels. A great many Northbridge houses sit well below the road, with internal stairs between every floor and a garden stair run from the front door to the kerb.
- How we handle it
- We walk the route before quoting and count the steps. The figure then reflects the real carry rather than a bedroom count, which is the only way an estimate for a Northbridge address means anything.
- Typical job
- Four and five-bedroom family homes with substantial furniture, often a piano, usually a full day and sometimes two.
- Specialist items
- Pianos, pool tables, oversized artwork and safes are common. Each is surveyed separately rather than absorbed into a general load.
- Parking
- Streets are narrow with limited turning space and the Suspension Bridge approach backs up in peak. We start early and confirm the truck's position beforehand.
- On-site quotes
- Free, and strongly recommended here. A phone quote for a Northbridge house is close to meaningless.
We count the steps before we price the job.
There is a particular kind of Northbridge house where the garage is at street level, the kitchen is two floors down, and the bedrooms are below that again. Every item travels the whole run twice — once to the door and once to the truck.
Fifty or sixty steps turns a six-hour job into a ten-hour one. Knowing that in advance is the difference between a quote that holds and an invoice that surprises you, so we come and count them.

01 My house is three levels below the street. Does that cost more?
It costs time rather than triggering a fee, and time is what we quote on. We count the run when we visit and it is in the figure before you commit.
02 Can a removal truck get down my driveway?
Some Northbridge driveways are too steep or too tight at the turn for a full-size truck. We would rather establish that when we quote than when we arrive, which is why we come and look.
03 Can you move a piano up from a lower level?
Yes, after surveying it. Depending on the stair run we either skid it out or arrange a hoist. Either way it is assessed and priced before you commit.
04 Do you cover Castlecrag and Willoughby?
Yes, along with Cammeray, Naremburn and the surrounding Lower North Shore. The hillside access considerations carry across.
